Spring Time Allergies? Breathe Easier With These Tips
As spring kicks off, it is the ultimate season of life… and death for those of us with allergies galore. Whether you’re team sneeze, cough, or watery eyes- or beyond, we wanted to give you some tips for those pesky allergies that love to pop up during nature’s prettiest season.
It’s time to stop cursing the flower buds, and go enjoy them for a change!
Explore the root cause of your allergies
Get real specific about your symptoms and see what could be causing the issue. Does it get worse when you’re outside? Inside? Near a window? We all love a nice breeze but open windows may not be the best move for you long-term, or maybe sporting a mask amidst the buds and blossoms might be a good move for you.
But spend some time really noticing what your allergies are and what seems to be causing them. Naming our symptoms and finding out root causes can take you so far in seeing how serious they are, if a doctor visit is in order, or if you really could make a few simple changes for a happier springtime.
Find some simple at-home changes
Spring cleaning isn’t just a fad. If allergies are a big issue for you, it might be a need! Make it a priority to dust those stubborn areas, deep-clean your carpets, or sweep out those long-forgotten corners. You may find yourself breathing SO much better! Especially if you haven’t cleaned in a while (no shame) or have a pet at home.
This can be as easy as scheduling a deep-clean day, hosting a cleaning party, or making a habit of doing one task a week.
And if dusting or vacuuming is making things worse, wear a mask while you clean! It’s okay if it feels dorky, but it can really help your lungs and don’t be afraid to do stuff that helps you!
Look into items like air purifiers, humidifiers, or diffusers
This is where exploring your root issues with allergies can come into play.
Is it because you feel really dry and gunky? A humidifier might be a great investment, especially if you find yourself waking up with a dry, croupy cough or a slightly sore throat every morning. You can put a small one in your bedroom or invest in a few by your main living areas. Especially if you’re in the desert like we are, dryness could be a big factor in your allergies.
Could a certain scent help open up your lungs? Maybe a diffuser could help! Oils like lemon, peppermint, orange, or so many more could help open up your airways and breathe easier. They also might help cut through any gunk in the air that isn’t helping you.
Is the air just really dusty? If you’ve got lots of pollen, dust, and pet hair going on- an air purifier might make a world of difference. Especially if you just can’t seem to get the best of the shedding, dust, and plant life going on right now. There’s fairly inexpensive options you can put in your bedroom for easier sleeping, office for work-time sniffles, or living room for a cleaner environment all-around.
Work on your lung health
While just focusing on your lungs won’t get rid of your allergies, stronger lungs might help you face allergies a little easier. Training your lungs always helps your respiratory health, which is the root of a lot of these issues.
You can use the Original Breath Builder all year round to invest in your lung health, deeper breathing, and overall wellness. It really can just take a few minutes a day to build up a stronger respiratory system that can better handle what spring’s throwing at it.
We hope these tips help make allergy season a little more bearable (and breathable!) for you this year.
