Easy Ways To Get More In Shape For Summer Fun!

With nicer weather and hopefully some more free time, these next few months might hold more activity than you’ve been used to. Especially if you work from home, or just stare at your laptop all day- the quick jump from desk monkey to rock climbing, hiking, or exploring the great outdoors might be a really shocking one.

I know we’ve all been there. You start a hike, start climbing that hill, and for some reason, you are WAY more out of breath than you ever thought you would be. But between the pandemic, so many of us working from home, and the fact that a lot of our jobs are super sedentary, it’s really easy for us to get out of shape. Or just get to a point where our lungs just aren't as strong as they used to be!

So, if you’re planning on jumping into some more active hobbies this spring and summer, we wanted to give you a few easy ways you can get a little more in shape before you jump out on the trail.

Start going on more walks!

You might be surprised just how little walking you’re doing right now. So, it might be a great idea to start paying attention to the step tracker on your phone or dust off one that you already have, and start tracking your steps! Set a realistic goal for you, and let it motivate you to start walking more! Maybe it’s just walking around the neighborhood after dinner or before work. Or it’s going on the treadmill and just walking for a while. Or doing some laps around your backyard.

Getting more steps in could be anything from scheduling a small hike once a week, to small daily walks, to hitting the gym. It could also be investing in a desk treadmill, that keeps moving even as you’re working.

Especially if you’re just trying to take a small step towards being more in shape, just focusing on walking is a really accessible way to get a little more activity into your day. We all have feet, we all have places we can walk, and we all have 10 minutes we can get to it.

Find a simple breathing exercise that exercises your lungs!

Sometimes you gotta go right to the source of the issue. A lot of times when we’re out of shape, it’s really to do with our lung capacity and our lung strength. Our hearts and lungs are our powerhouses. And when they’re not as strong as they should be, the rest of us can’t be either.

You could do something as simple as use, the Original Breath Builder every day to really train your lungs and work on your breast strength. It helps with your lung health, strengthens your breathing, and can be an easy way to get stronger without having to go to the gym or feel like you have to change your whole lifestyle.

The Original Breath Builder is a really easy tool, that you can use for 15 minutes a day or less. It feels like a game to use, and it’s a great way to track how much you’re growing and just have one simple device to help you get better.

Start going to a workout class or start a simple workout.

If you’re currently not that active, but you want to be more active, it might be a good idea to sign up for one or two workout classes a week or start a simple workout routine. And when we say simple- we mean simple.

Do not make things too complicated or expect yourself to start running 6 miles if you don’t even run one right now. It can be as easy as signing up for a kickboxing or yoga class at your local gym, finding a YouTube Fitness channel you really like, or joining a challenge.

The goal is that you really want something to hold you accountable and help you get more active consistently. So going to a workout class gives you an environment and support to get more fitness in without feeling like it’s all on you. The same could be said about joining a challenge or watching a YouTube workout video every day- just a simple habit to implement for some big results.

Even just these small changes can make a big difference as you want to get out there more this summer. If you’re looking to hike without having to stop to catch your breath every couple minutes, keep up with your kids a little easier, or just be a bit more ready for all the swimming, camping, and sunshine - start bringing in some simple habits now to make it just that much easier to jump in this summer.
